Assalamualaikum and hello everyone! This shall be my first
blog post for the year (excluding the essays I posted previously). Nowadays,
I’ve been craving for some heart warming story, and I stumbled upon Hospital
Playlist, directed by the creator of the marvellous Reply series! I just
watched episode 2 last week, and that episode has left me in awe, deep
wondering, and everlasting feeling. There’s a few points worth mentioning that
I got from watching the episode.
In everything we do, logic and practical isn’t sufficient
to make it work, compassion is needed as well. Life isn’t all about work,
practical and logic
You know, in this super busy world, where everything seems
to be moving on really fast, humans are cooped up with their own world of
studying, or working, or in some affairs. To catch up with the fast-moving
world, the only thing in our mind is to achieve a goal, to get our work done as
soon as possible, to only obey with the guidelines and path that are set upon
us, just like how other people do. But, we often forget compassion, which is
the nature, the essence of a human being. We neglected our feelings and OTHER
people feelings when dealing with some affairs. We forgot that each one of us
has a heart in size of one’s fist, that is so fragile and complicated. There’s
a scene in Hospital Playlist, where a doctor told a mother the straight facts
of his injured son’s condition and that he seems unlikely to survive which
makes the mother’s heart sank even further, adding the salt to the injuries.
Another doctor told her that even if the diagnostic and facts says so, she
shouldn’t just blurt the facts right onto the mother’s face, whose condition
already panicked and emotionally unstable without paying attention to the
mother’s condition and feelings. Even so the guidelines says that doctors
should tell a matter-of-facts, some consideration should be taken first as
they’re not only dealing with the patient’s mental and physical, but also the
guardian. This scene makes me realize that, we often been told to do and act
this and that way, but never really advised about feelings and emotional, all
we’ve been taught are mostly about logic and practical. Which makes no wonder
why humans are getting stripped away from emotional as we’re taught that
emotional is just something emotional and unimportant that’ll make us weak and
unprofessional. Surely, there logic and rationality has the same importance
too, but we need to be smart to balance them in making any decisions and doing
some work without neglecting one of them.
Doctors are human too
Since we were little, we always look up to doctors and most
was inspired to be one. Since doctor seems like superheroes without capes. But
then only small amount of us would pass to become a doctor. And now we, always
thought that doctors can do anything, they can save lives, they are always
healthy and fit, they are not emotionally attached since they deals with a lot
of deaths and that they are super strong for having nonstop on calls and
attached to the hospital at any time for emergency cases. Which is a good
thing, since it is right. But somehow, we often forgot that doctors are human
too. Don’t you think doctors would feel terribly bad, in agony, and blaming
him/herself when their patients die. But we’ll never see them wailing along
with the patient’s guardian, because they know that it would sadden the
guardians more. Yup, they had encounter a lot of death before, but that doesn’t
mean they’re becoming inhumane and prone to sadness since every single life
matters. Announcing the time of the death in front of the people is the hardest
things ever, since they feel like it’s their fault for not being able to save
the patients, and some guardians would blame them. We forgot that Allah is the
only one who decide the life and death of each person, and doctors are just the
‘medium’ to save the patient.
Youth is not to be wasted
I used to think that becoming a medical student means sacrificing
their youth to be devoted precisely to study only, without any jam and fun. But
watching this drama gives me new side of medical students life. The 5 trio of
the drama, they enjoy their youth together by doing the thing the love; forming
a band. It’s exhilarating to see how they enjoy their university life, despite
had to study-cram and memorizing the intricate details of human’s anatomy, they
still find a way to do other things that spark themselves. This makes me
excited to start my university life in a few months from now on. My goal is not
to just study smart, but also finding my ‘other’ identity, exploring a lot of
things and finding my ultimate squad! I want to enjoy my youth as the 5 squad did,
and of course, to preserve the friendship till forever. I don’t want to limit
my youth to just study ‘academically’, but also to garner a lot more knowledge,
experiences, and opportunities. Youth is the best and most vital moment of life
as we’re free to explore anything without tightly tied to ‘commitment’ and work.
Overall, I LOVE this drama so much. It’s a nonlinear story, you
wouldn’t know what to expect for the next episode. There are A LOT of side characters
here, which will make you quite confused at first. But they’re necessary to
carry on the story. It is amazing how the connection between the vast characters
work and very naturally. I’m looking forward to see what going to unfold and
what hidden messages will be in the upcoming episodes <3
